The Institute of Informatics for Graduate Studies, represented by the Dean of the Institute (Prof. Dr. Suha Muhammad Hadi), participated in the second technical committee meeting of the Smart Cities Forum, the first of its kind in Iraq. This meeting is being held in preparation for the Iraqi Smart Cities Forum, scheduled to be held on February 17th. The meeting included a review of successful experiences from several countries, the latest solutions and modern applications for smart cities, and their management mechanisms worldwide. It also highlighted the fundamentals of establishing and developing these cities in Iraq and promoting the use of technology in a sustainable environment, which improves quality of life by meeting citizens’ needs for alternative solar energy and thermal insulation, as well as the needs of people with special needs. The meeting was attended by Abdul Razzaq Al-Zuhairi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, and representatives of ministries (the New Cities Authority, the National Security Advisor, the Communications and Media Commission, a number of Iraqi universities, the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the forum organizing company), as well as Dr. Mona Al-Jaberi, the Authority’s advisor for renewable energy affairs. It is worth noting that the Iraqi Smart Cities Forum is being held by the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and the International Chamber of Commerce in Iraq, in cooperation with the National Investment Commission, the New Cities Implementation Authority of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, and the National Security Advisory, with the participation of the Arab Cities Organization/Arab Smart Cities Forum.
