The Institute of Informatics discusses a master’s thesis on semantic recognition and location of asphalt cracks. The Master’s thesis of the student (Shamim Taha Mohi) was discussed at the Institute of Informatics for Graduate Studies on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The study, specializing in Computer Science, was titled: “Semantic Recognition and Location of Asphalt Cracks by Combining Crack Segmentation and Deep Learning.” This research study proposed a unique system for detecting asphalt cracks in roads, based on deep learning techniques that combine object detection and semantic segmentation, then identifying their geometric properties using three methods as a framework for object detection. The student (Shamim Taha Mohi) obtained a master’s degree with a very good grade in Computer Science.
