Discussion of a Higher Diploma Project at the Institute of Informatics for Postgraduate Studies

The Institute of Informatics for Graduate Studies discussed a Higher Diploma student’s project. The discussion session was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The student, Osama Nabil Hussein, presented his project entitled:

“Spelling Correction Using Distance Algorithms for the English Language.”

The proposed system employs a two-stage approach. In the first stage, words containing spelling errors are detected by comparing them to a dataset. In the second stage, the spelling is corrected, and suitable alternatives are suggested. Performance is evaluated comprehensively using metrics such as accuracy, processing time, and similarity values.

The student, Osama Nabil Hussein, was awarded a Higher Diploma with distinction.
